The saying ‘when snow falls- nature listens’ was very much evident during a week where we had our first real spell of prolonged frost and scattered snow showers.
As a result the fish here now settled down to their normal depth and winter feeding habits.
Traditional methods have paid dividends with bloodworm very much to the fore. Pete Green landed over 20 fish using this method, Keven Gillies 16, John Rhind from Aberdeen 9 and Ewen Taylor with 7.
Buzzers and okay dokay’s also did well with George Pirie from Aberdeen netting 20 fish, Brian Ross 8, M Buchan 7, and R Lawrence from Newtonhill with 6.
Lures found to be effective were various colours of nomad, black fritz, black or green bunny leech and the cat’s whisker all securing fish to the net.
A lot of fishermen were taking brief shelter and solace from the cold from the welcoming warmth from the bothy. One of our regulars (who won’t be named) was heard saying to his pal- “Bad weather always looks worse through a windae”.
With wintry weather forecast for the week ahead my advice would be to keep your curtains shut!
