I'm considering buying a new rotary vice, I'm able to go up to about £50 but not much more! does anyone have any ideas.  cheers.

I bought an "Anvil" vice...£99 (i know its a bit out your price range) but it has lasted me far far longer than any vice i have used. I tie everything from size 18 dries upto size 8/0 Pike flies and normally a vice lasts me a year, 18 months tops. I have had the Anvil some 3 years now without a single problem. Highly recommended at the lower end of the price scale.

Get a Snowbee Fly-Mate Rotary vice, they are about £30 and quite brilliant.
Mines been great for the last 6 years and has probably seen several thousand flies.
The jaws still take a size 30 with no probs.
Any snowbee dealer should do, Somers should have in town, Mike might still be able to get as well, otherwise try John Norris or Sportsfish for decent service online.

I have the flymate and have had no problems i use it for flies from 18 to 4/0 pike flies.

You must be to a bit too vigorous Either that or its the whip finish

Perhaps they perished due to lack of use, '07 was a slow year for me by all accounts - not enough flies tied either

Mine have perished a couple of times too, but they are easy enough to replace. I thought it was just down to the vice living in the hut.

  The vice in the hut is VERY handy indeed  having made the unfortunate mistake of having only taken two of a certain pattern which mike knows about myself and my mate lee were able to row back to the hut and tie a couple more and carried on our succesful session, cheers again for letting us use the vice
