September was very hit and miss for me. the weather kept me off the water when I wasn't at work, so only managed a couple of wee trips.
The autumn colours make for a very pretty landscape, always a beautiful season when the weather behaves

Plenty LDO's hatching though and a few fish to be found rising not many decent ones until later in the month.

The final week of the season has been better, with a bit of water and plenty flies i've found some better fish

Lots of cool stuff appearing too, more signs of the season

And the river looks beautiful.

For a final session, I headed downstream for a day with Mr B. I took my Bradford Bamboo out as tribute to Mr Geirach, John Bradford was a friend and fishing buddy of Johns, so it seemed like a nice tangible association. I think John would have approved of what turned out to be a pretty special session. Dries to start with as there was a really good LDO hatch on all day. Brownies and Finnock were most obliging. Many of the rising fish proved to be fresh finnock

Some nice browns too to finish off the season

Nymphing one of the runs proved to be a lot of fun bringing more finnock, browns, a sea trout and my first salmon of the season

So a great way to wrap up what has been a fantastic dryfly season for me

Maybe a couple of salmon sessions will occur, but for 2024 I will be hanging up my 5wt  *smiley-sad* but loads of great memories to carry through the winter.

Nice fish Sandy. Rivers were hard for me towards season end.
Not too shabby in terms of numbers but don't think i had a fish over a pound and a half.

I have updated the Inverurie Angling Association page with a summary of the 2024 season catches.  :z16

See: https://www.fishingthefly.co.uk/inverurie-angling-association.html

For salmon, this means we can add 2023 - 30 and 2024 - 85 to the list below.

With less folk fishing, no spinning, no prawns and no worms, that has to be one of the best years.
Let’s hope it’s the first of 6 like the historical patterns suggest.  I would be interested to see what the change in sizes has been, lots of the fish I’ve seen this year have been fairly small in the 3-5lb range

I’ve seen lots of fish in the system all season and I’m surprised there wasn’t more caught.  I was standing on Montgarrie bridge last week just looking upstream and in 15 minutes I saw 6 fish moving upstream with 3 or 4 behind me splashing about. It’s been like that for weeks.

Yep, I would agree with that comment Sandy.

From the IAA newsletter, the heaviest Salmon on the Inverurie Burgh Fishings this year was 20lbs netted by Peter Rejzner and on the A&K Fishings 25lbs by Ralph Green Snr.
