River Ythan 2023

Headed off to Gicht this afternoon with my wee pal.
Cracking day for walking and the water running at a good level.
If we could get this height of water at the backend I think this beat would be tremendous.

Great photos Duncan  :)

I fished there a few years ago, it's a really nice area.

Cracking photos, I really should spend more time on that beat. Barely visited it last season, but then last season was generally a train wreck for me.

A early Finnock. Are they running earlier, global warming and all that stuff.

Nice early finnock Ivor.
That one will be on it’s way back to sea having arrived up river in the Late summer/Autumn.

Happy to be corrected Duncan,  Am still new to the Ythan and Finnock. I was hoodwinked by the condition having a solid gut and clean look.  great condition having wintered in the river.

It certainly is in great condition Ivor.

I once read the results of a study on finnock from another river which found that only a relatively small percentage of finnock actually spawned.I think it was around 25% but I can’t remember where I read that to double check.

I would say your finnock is a non spawner.
