Lochter Report – Small joys at Lochter

Down Lochter way we can happily report a pervading air of sanguinity permeating  the policies of the Fishery. With all the present strife in the world it should be reassuring for you to know we are striving with every sinew to provide a sanctuary for calm contemplation as you cast your willing flies.

Incredibly even in angling there there can creep in an aching compulsion for ‘even more,’ ‘even bigger’ and there is the saying that ‘many people lose the small joys in the hope for the big happiness’.It is occasionally worth remembering the simplicity of when you started fishing and if you   concentrate on what you don’t have then you will never ever have enough.

The weather gods were reasonably kind for the time of year and as a result the fish were a bit more active and more anglers also ventured out. Those who left their snug dwellings were rewarded with plenty ‘ rugs, tugs and fish on the line’.

In the 20 plus category for the week were Robert McPherson who used a selection of cormorants,Fred McCally who did well with different coloured apps worms, Jim Brown used white lures and apps worms, James Abel also used cormorants and Kevin Stewart used okay dokay’s or diawl bachs.

Ian Lindsay had 17 fish on cat bugs, Albert Trail had 16 fish on his favoured mop and cormorant combination,Charlie Will used the fab and diawl bach combination for his 14 fish and Nick Begg used a mop and stalking bug set up for his 14 fish.

Jim Riddell used a selection of lures including the WSW and blue damsel for his 13 fish, Colin Farquhar used a black nomad lure and cats whisker for his 12 fish, Bill Wood worked away with his mops and buzzers for 10 fish, Steve Ingram used the yellow dancer and Rob Roy lure for his 9 fish and Mike Munro looks to be forging ahead as the Frigate Bars no1 fisher with 9 fish on a mixture of lures.

Other flies that did reasonably well during the week were the hothead damsel, Montana lure, pearly cormorant and the beaded diawl bach.

So why not come down Lochter way to top up your joy reserves.
