Lochter Report – Reasonable Contentment at Lochter

Down Lochter way we have freed ourselves from Winters icy grip, for just now ,with all 3 lochs currently fully open at last.

On the fishing front things are ticking over nicely for the time of year with most anglers catching fish which has led to some anglers even showing signs of being ‘ reasonably content’.

Now, in the angling world ‘ Reasonable Contentment’ is an almost mythical euphoric state of near nirvana but it has a cunningly strict protocol that you are not allowed to outwardly show it but have to mingle insidiously amongst your more subdued fellow anglers.

However to a finely trained eye there are some subtle clues which can help reveal anyone undergoing this worrying phenomenon. Studies have shown that they are sadly compelled by this condition to fill up the Returns book  neatly, honestly and with the correct fly put down for all to see and the word ‘various’ never enters their head.Worryingly they purchase flies and sundry goods without complaint of price and shockingly they have even been heard whispering to the Fishery manager that he has a ‘first rate’ stocking policy in place.  All in all when you review these symptoms it is a very cruel cruel world we live in :- but these people could be walking amongst you – you have been warned.

On a less dramatic but no less important matter there was a variety of flies that worked effectively and Paul Keir was in double figures using a hothead damsel and sparkler,Graeme  Duthie used an apps bloodworm in conjunction with a small white lure with a tail and it got him 18 fish, Kenny Stewart used the classic buzzer and cormorant set up for his 16 fish and Roger Davidson used a yellow damsel for his 15 fish.

Duncan Campbell kept the yellow theme going netting 10 fish on a yellow dancer, Richard Parley did well for a 3hr session getting 10 fish on a humongous or mop, Rob Wishart had 9 fish on lures,Colin Scott fished the Dennis the Menace buzzer in conjunction with a pearly cormorant for 9 fish and Lesley Johnson had 8 fish on the blue flash damsel and fab.

Other favourite flies during the week were the black WSW, green cormorant, green okay dokay, silver cheeked buzzer and Montana lure.

So, hope to see you down Lochter way some time soon whatever your shade of contentment.
