So, I discovered a wee while ago that the SLX line that i had been using was in fact far older than i expected

Now, I look after my lines but this one was > 6 years old.

I don't use them every week but in a normal year ( not this year) I probably use them at least once a fortnight.

How often do people change out their lines out of interest ?

( I just ordered a SS 2 to replace my SLX as I thought it was about time...)

I still fish an SLX and a GT125 that i bought in 2008.....still feel as good as the day they were new.

I did have a Sunray line and it lasted a season and started to split and crack......

I still have and occasionally use a DT #6 Aircell fly line I was given when I was 15 - I’m now coming up 70!

It’s still usable and floats but needs to be dressed with line floatant for a full days fishing.

I fish upwards of 100 days a year and use up to 4 different lines. On average I get about 4-5 years out of a line before they start developing the cracks every few millimetres along from the tip. I do clean and prepare them every year several times. I suspect the plastic reacts to UV light over time which can't be avoided.
