Down Lochter way the constant Summer heat has somewhat reduced the returns figures to more modest but nevertheless enjoyable levels. Picking the right time of day and ‘being there’ when the fish start to feed are all part of fishing at this time of year.
Albert Cowie from Fraserburgh fished using buzzers and weighted nymphs across at the Muckle Troot loch and by varying his depth to prevailing conditions he landed 18 fish for his session.
Mike McLennan kept faith with his assorted dry flies on an overcast day when the fish were breaking the surface and it got him 15 fish,Steve Prince had two outings during the week and he had 15 fish and 11 fish respectively on either damsels or dry flies.
Graham Johnston fished small hoppers for his 11 fish, Craig Whyte used the apps bloodworm for his 11 fish which included one about the 10Lb mark,Colin Henderson had 10 fish to the net on a fab and buzzer set up and Neil Garden had 10 fish on cormorants and small spiders.
Mike Neale had 10 fish on a WSW lure or damsels and Connor Neale also on the WSW had 9 fish including a nice brownie about 6Lb and Kevin Ritchie used buzzers and crunchers for 9 fish which included two about the 8Lb mark which he was delighted with.
The cooler clearer water of the Muckle Troot is proving a popular draw for visiting anglers as the big fish there are feeding well and being caught in substantial numbers as a result, so its always good to end with some positive news in these sobering times.
