Down Lochter way last week there was a saying that was bandied about that “all things seem possible in May.”
Certainly on the fishing front it was very much full of possibilities as far as catching fish was concerned.
Things seamlessly carried on from the week before with lots of top of the water action to be seen and had.
If you picked the right fly at the right time of the day then you were guaranteed constant attention being given to it by the feeding fish.
So another week with plenty of anglers in the 20+ catch rate range.
Rab Bell up for a short break from Dumfries was one such lucky angler on both his visits when he used small hoppers, CDC’s and one yellow owl.
Others in this category were Dante Dupitas on emergers and dry flies, Ernie Mackay on dries, Alan Paterson on dries, Fred McAlly on CDC’s, Gogs Mackay on small lures & fabs, Simon Ruddiman on mainly buzzers, Russell Jenkins on dry’s and buzzers as were Mike Skene, Stuart Howie and Michael McDonald.
Stuart Crockett, John Brown & Jim Adie were all in the high teens using small nymphs and dry flies and Richard Parley worked either a klinkhammer and apps bloodworm to net 16 fish with two of them being our own home grown shapely specimens of 12lb and 11lb, which gave him a terrific struggle.
Neil Garden used size 16 klinkhammer and it got him 15 fish to the net; Paul Reid had 14 on either a grey wulff dry fly or red snatcher, Bill Bain had 12 fish on lures and Craig Bennett had 11 fish on black crunchers and green adult buzzers.
There have been very encouraging reports and how good the fishing has been in the evenings, so as we are open to dusk or 10pm it may be worth pencilling in a visit this week while the going is good.
Tight lines,
