It’s just as tidal Stevie
There’s a really cool channel to fish and I’ve had some great days fishing the ADAA section.
Lends itself nicely to fly fishing too  :z16

Sandy

Thanks Sandy  :z16

Sounds like it’s my kinda place, hoping to pay it a visit soon.

Came across this old competition literature the other day.
This would have been the first time i fished the estuary and it proved to be a real baptism of fire.

In it's day, this was a big, prestigious event with dozens of competitors.
I hadn't a clue how to fish the estuary back then so inevitably ended up with a blank, despite all anglers around me taking fish on the same Sutherland special i was fishing!

I remember going back to the weigh in and seeing all the seatrout laid out along with some seabass.
I was hooked.

ADAA beats have been getting a good cut.
What a difference it makes being able to move around freely and so much easier and quicker to get a fish landed if you are lucky enough to get one.

A small rise in water last week took in a few seatrout and i managed to get one fairly fresh fish, but the water remains low.
I'm seeing the bow waves of running fish in the shallow water most nights but fishing is hard going.
We need a decent rise in water.

Yes, Duncan, the ADAA beats on the Ythan including their new Schivas beat are all cut and ready and waiting for hopefully,  the Autumn run of fish. The Schivas beat will be a new experience for many of the members who I am sure will take full advantage of this new fishery.

That's great news Paul.

Water is up a wee bit but might be just enough to get a few fish to run upstream.

Not the bar of silver i was looking for but hopefully this good sized cock seatrout will be back guarding his Redd.
He certainly swam straight back to where i'd hooked him after release, suggesting that this was his territory!

Seem to be a few about now Duncan. I headed south on Monday and had another blank  :.

But I managed a couple hours on Tuesday afternoon on the Ythan. Nothing all year then 2 in ten minutes and a cracking fresh finnock  :z18

I won’t  feel so bad now if I blank with the Salmon    *smiley-grin*

Well done Ivor,I knew you would do well once you had got to know the beats. :z16

Still time to save blanking with the Salmon. There's not many on the go but you just never know when a taker will arrive.

Started off fishing for Salmon on a middle beat but soon lost interest and decided to head upstream with the trout rod.
The water had risen the day before and i was hopeful that there might have been a good run of finnock.
Thankfully, the fish were there and i had a lovely afternoon's fishing.

First finnock of the day

Well done guys  :z16

Bonnie fish and certainly fun until the big silver un’s make an appearance. If it’s any consolation they are hard to come by on the next river down too, although I encountered one today that I’ll share in the don thread.

Best wishes for one before closing *smiley-wink*

The river is rising fast at the moment so today could well have been my last day of the season.
I've made the most of the last few days as it's a long, long time till late summer next year when the Ythan will hopefully come to life again *smiley-sad*

Managed a couple of finnock today and a seatrout and finnock yesterday.

Some photos from yesterday

Lovely fish. I managed to duck out for an hour and a half on Friday afternoon, made brief contact with what I think was a nice finnock.

Did go back on Saturday morning and had a couple of token casts, but it was futile with the river like cold coffee.

A real shame that Saturday was unfishable Robert.
It's always nice to get out on the last day of the season.
