Lochter Report – Swanning About at Lochter
Down Lochter way last week the battles on the water were not always piscatorial as our male resident swan, known affectionately as ‘Stan’ tirelessly sow off rival competitors for the obviously popular winter berth.
Feathers were flying in all directions and many of the fishers had to pull their line from the water or in one case duck when an emergency take off was called for. We can however exclusively reveal that Stan is ‘still the man’ and rules supreme and he will continue to happily hiss at you if you pass him by this winter.
On the fishing front ‘swanning about’ was kept to a minimum due to the many tireless battles with our trout that continue to battle hard, so you had to keep your wits about you.
Norman Fletcher had a very successful all day session, mainly on the Muckle Troot using apps bloodworm, cormorants and diawl bachs and it got him 20 fish.
Mike Reynolds on an intermediate line changed between using a hothead damsel and a black WSW and he did well netting 16 fish.
Colin Scott, up from Perth for a weekends fishing in the area did well from the start on an apps bloodworm and buzzers set up and for his first visit to the Fishery he was delighted to land 15 fish, one being a 6lb blue trout as well as his first tiger trout.
Albert Trail continued his fine form getting 15 fish on fabs, small nymphs or apps bloodworm, Jim Eddie got a nice dozen fish on a pink beaded cats whisker and Derek Martin chose to use a hare’s ear and cormorants set up which got him 10 fish.
Other returns were Bill Wood on 10 fish on fabs and nymphs, Ryan Reid with 9 fish on the humungous and red dancer lures, Jim Sangster with 8 on blobs and Sandy Murdoch with 8 on lures.
So lots of action all over the water – long may it last!
