Down Lochter way last week it was very much the case that the anglers were keeping a close eye on the weather forecast and if Carol said there was a smidgen of a chance of fine weather then a legion of eager anglers could be predicted to arrive having momentarily cast away the shackles of domestic servitude.
Storm nor tempest stood in their way and for those with a fortitudinous mind-set then a rich bounty of fishing pleasure was clearly within their grasp.
Colin Taylor from Aberdeen, on a fairly windy day, fished a team of cormorants on a sink tip line and was rewarded with 16 fish for his day session.
Fifteen seemed to be last weeks lucky number with Bryan Ross getting his on bloodworm and buzzers, Peter Young on blobs, buzzers and damsels, Stuart Crockett on apps bloodworm as did Rhys West.
The apps bloodworm continued to do well throughout the week as Keith Wilson from Aberdeen had 12 with it as well as the WSW lure, Neil Smith from Aberdeen also had 12 in blustery conditions solely on the apps bloodworm and J Cruickshank had 12 using a selection of bugs.
Graham Whyte used the damsel or bloodworm to good effect with 10 fish, Bill Birnie had 9 on a selection of lures and Colin McDonald from Aberdeen used either cormorants or lures to land 9 fish, one of them being a remarkable specimen of 12lb 07oz. Well done to Colin on getting such a lovely fish!
So all in all, considering the time of year there has been some tremendous sport to be had and with the fish in ‘fine fettle’ it could certainly be the time to dust down your fishing kit and give it a try for this new season.
