Lochter Report - Big Fish Bonanza at Lochter
« on: 05/06/2018 at 13:50 »
Down Lochter way last week, the main story was the amount of lovely big trout being caught on a regular basis and also the prodigious evening rise conditions that ensured exciting top of the water sport.

Paul Ingram from Newmachar had a splendid evening session where he landed 15 fish one being weighed in the net at 11lb and another at 9lb as well as several in the 4 lb category. He got them mostly on dries with the hawthorn, spider and black ants working particularly well.

Sean McCaffrey was well into double figures for his session using CDC shuttlecocks to good effect with one of his rainbows a plump 9lb fish.

Davy Barron from Macduff, one of our veteran anglers at 87 years young and on his first outing of the year had 8 fish on the Muckle Troot Loch using the bunny leech lure and 2 of these fish were both around the 8lb mark, so well done Davy!

Karen Fraser skilfully worked a team of buzzers for her session and had 9 fish, one being an 8 lber, which gave her a terrific scrap.

Noel Kelly had 14 fish on dries and buzzers, his best being a 5 lb fish.

Looking through the returns book other notable entries were Steve Prince who on his two outings had 16 and 12 fish respectively on buzzers, diawl bachs and pheasant tail nymphs.

Twelve seemed to be a lucky number for some, with Sandy Scobie from Aberdeen getting his on a lime and black lure, Davy Wood used his favourite WSW lure for his and Peter Young got his on diawl bachs.

Here’s hoping that the weather for the weeks ahead stays fine and the exciting top of the water action; particularly in the evenings continues to entice the local avid dry fly angler.

Tight lines,
