Screw-in extension handle
« on: 11/01/2018 at 13:07 »
I have a couple of ideas running around in the empty space that I call my head and am wondering if anyone knows where I could buy a short, screw-in extension handle? Or would I have to make one up with cork rings and some threaded rod?
No further details about what I am doing at the moment, or to which rod(s)  :z4

Several options out there....

http://www.meadowfishery.com/product/pacbay-f2m-extension-handles matched up with one of these http://www.meadowfishery.com/product/pacbay-butt-plugs-and-caps

Or you can build your own using the posts  http://www.meadowfishery.com/product/pacbay-f2-extension-handle-posts

Hope that gives some ideas.

I have, somewhere, an old Daiwa 11'3" sea trout rod that came with a push in ferrules extension handle.  And my 10 foot Norboron has a Fuji reel seat which has a overfit extension that screws directly onto the thread of the seat.

I have made several rod extensions using old, or scrap rod handles. Just cut to size and either up-sleeve or down-sleeve to fit existing rod.
If you need a threaded extension  and have an old rod with a rubber button fitted the rubber button threaded part is likely to be a 3/8"bsf thread, which was the fishing tackle standard (still quite common and standard with Shakespeare).  Cut off a piece of the old rod handle and  screw in a bolt and then cut off the bolt head.  The new handle can then be sanded to suit and becomes a 'screw in' extension. 3/8"bsf is also the coarse fishing standard for  most things, and threaded parts, that can be modified, are readily available on ebay.

Thanks guys.
You have pretty much suggested what I had come up with so I am glad that I am on the right track. One rod will probably suit a small fighting butt better than an extension, but the other will definitely improve with an extension.
I guess I will have to do some exploratory surgery to find out what is under the fighting but on one of them.
Off to sharpen the knives!
Thanks again,

Euan,

after seeing Robs suggestions, I was sure that you might go for one of the but plugs :X2 :X2
