Attatching flyline to backing
« on: 27/03/2017 at 10:02 »
Although i have been flyfishing for years and have attatched many flylines to backing by all sports of 'manners' these last few years i have been putting braided loops onto the back end of the flyline then tying the backing to it.

however this is probably not a marvellous idea.

how do you do it ? What knots etc ?

I use this, the Albright knot,  and have done for 30 odd years

Covering with shrink tube had never occurred to me...but that's what I will do in the future.

I also use this at the other end for attaching a wire trace to my leader when pike fly fishing :)

Recently retied all my lines recently with Albrights on the advice of Miss Vokey. I have to say that I really like them, more than I liked the nail knot that I used to use.
Like the heat shrink option too.  :z16

I prefer sliding on a mtr of braided mono then nail knotting it. a tad a super glue and aqua sure to finish. a then use a albright knot from backing to braid. probably a tad overkill for a trout line but some salmon running lines are hellish skinny and the albright cuts right through to the core.
