This series started again a couple of weeks ago. Monday nights at 7pm. The programmme shown this week is well worth a look on the BBC I Player. It highlights the excellent work carried out by Bob Kindness on the River Carron in Wester Ross where his hatchery has restored salmon stocks in the river. Bob appears to be a scientist who disagrees with other fishery scientists.
He has consistently proved that hatcheries do work, and, in the face of ever increasing winter floods they are necessary to make up for washed out redds. Catches on the Aberdeenshire Dee and Don have certainly decreased in conjunction with the closure of their hatcheries. I have no doubt that the biologists and scientists will disagree, and will probably advocate that we plant more trees !
