« on: 26/12/2012 at 23:55 »
Hiya, I got a days salmon fishing on The Tay as a present. One of those "Salmon fishing Experiences"
I have never been Salmon fishing before, so any tips will be greatly accepted.

Thanks

I suspect, to be honest Tam, that one of those days will be guided or ghillied.
If that is the case then IMHO the best advice is probably to do as you are instructed, make like a sponge (soak everything in), enjoy your day and maybe do it again sometime.

Hi Hamish, yeah it's with a guide so you are right, he will tell me everything I need to know.
I just need to pick the best date to go and get it booked ASAP

Thanks 😄

I'm sure your ghillie will tell you this but do not strike as you would when  trout fishing, let the fish turn with the fly and raise your rod.

I'm not sure yet as its a voucher with a company called "Speyfish"
I'm in Australia at the moment so won't get any info until I'm home early in the new year.

Ok guys, has taken me a bit of time to try and arrange this but I have now emailed them to get available dates.
I am able to go between May and August so hopefully they will come back with dates between then.

One little tip, ensure that you are properly dressed when you arrive. White trainers are a must, along with a grey tracksuit, preferably with hood and 3 blue stripes down the legs and arms. Lastly, ensure you wear a baseball cap, peak turned at a jaunty angle.

The Ghillie will see you have good breeding and put you on the best pool...honest ;)

This was the calibre of Salmon anglers visiting Crocketts in Blairgowrie on Saturday as they tried to get free salmon fishing and buy a rod, reel, line and flies for under £25 :)

I pointed out that for the way they were dressed, they should be fly fishing for Pike ;)

Tam,

Do you know where you will be fishing?

The beat and when it gets most fish should dictate when you tae the day really to give you the best chance of a few fish on the bank.

Lower beats are fishing very well just now.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben, I have been booked in for the 13th July, it was the best date that suited me.
I will have a look and see if I can find some reports from either river.
Thanks

Well,  just had an email today to say that the Guide has been down on the water and its very low.
So they have postponed my days fishing until the beginning of September.
