Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

At last, a week where weather conditions favoured the angler and where several days were ideal with cloud cover and only a light breeze. The higher water temperature has encouraged the surface activity with the dry fly in all it's variations accounting for better catches and the buzzers and nymphs luring in the sub surface feeders. All is not Utopia as the weather conditions have encouraged the weed growth and has resulted in a lot of effort to keep the water fishable.
However, due to the depth of the water, 80% of the area is usually weed clear and our efforts have led to us managing to keep the banks clear enough to allow the successful landing and release of catches. We will continue in our efforts to keep the water fishable at all times.
The best recorded catches this week fell to:

M MacPherson, Lhanbryde, 12 fish, (Hares ear), F Thrall, Fraserburgh, 11 fish, (Damsel), N Thomson, Macduff, 11 fish, (CDC), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 8 fish, (Hares ear), D Brown, Ellon, 7 fish, (Black Buzzer).

Six fish each were landed by I Watt, Turriff, A Murray, Gardenstown, A MacPherson, Lhanbryde and C MacPherson, Lhanbryde using Black Fritz, CDC, Damsel nymphs and Buzzers.

Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open 7 days from 8:00am til 9:00pm. Visitors and novices are welcome and booking is not necessary. Boats, rods and tackle is available for hire if required.
