“Auld Ayr, wham ne`er a town surpasses for honest men and bonnie lasses” , words from Robert Burns to which we can add “ and fine fishers” if their performance in the Sharpes Fours held at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum on Sunday,is anything to go by. With a score of 65points Ayr Travellers A team won the event from Team Raemoir with 62 points with Ayr Travellers B in third with 51 points.Fished in rather indifferent conditions far removed from the Indian summer being enjoyed further south forty anglers competed and had an enjoyable day with fish coming to the net throughout to everything from buzzers to wsw`s. Well done to the Travellers for making what turned out to be a highly successful weekend fishing foray.
The curtain comes down on the summer competition season at Lochter this Sunday with the final of the Summer League sponsored by EM Diagnostics. There is £1000 prize money to be won and with several pairs in close contention for the top honour it should prove to be a most engrossing event. The Winter League will get underway in November to keep the competition interest alive. This is a singles competition with anglers required to fish once a month on a day of their own choosing .
In the past week there have been some lovely fishing conditions and some excellent results. Denny Mackay from Inverness stuck to his favourite buzzers and had eleven  fish to his name while on the same day D Limond from Kemnay had the extra pleasure of seeing his home tied olives work a treat and attract nineteen fine fish. He kept two for 8lbs and released the remainder. John Parsons consistent as ever had a score of twenty one on blobs and mini lures,Ross Smith grassed fourteen using nymphs and dries and fishing buddies D Simpson and N Smith had a fabulous day with forty between them.
This weeks forecast is for unsettled conditions which probably means a bit of everything. It  should result in continued good fishing as this type of weather seems to keep the fish active.
