The first week of Winter for the angling community and with all catches this week falling to nymphs and lures it heralds the beginning of the deeper fishing. Intermediate and sinking lines were proving successful but good catches were still falling to the floating lines with longer leaders and suitable weighted lures. The bigger fish are proving a bit more elusive and must be lying deep, although we must bear in mind their numbers are dwindling due to catching, normal mortality and the shortages of larger fish from our suppliers. Hopefully this will partially resolve itself during the coming months but we can envisage a supply problem during the next 12 months for fisheries without the luxury of holding ponds and who have a specific stocking weight. No doubt our suppliers are aware and taking all necessary and practical steps to ensure supplies.
This week has seen some commendable catches including
P Gray Turriff 14 fish
A Gibson Gardenstown 13 fish
J Mackay-Smith Buckie 12 fish
B Milton Buckie 8 fish
F Murray Buckie 7 fish
A good number of these fish have been in the 3.5-5lb range.
The most productive lures have been W.S.W., Cat's Whiskers and Bunny Leech with olive being a significant colour in recorded catches.
Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water with juniors and learners very welcome. Booking is not necessary.
