I have some blanks arriving any day now.  Should I start with the 10ft 5wt or the 13ft 8wt?!?!  I can't decide.  What a wonderful dilema! :z4

Hi Matt

Same with me, 9ft 4pc 3wt Barrio Blank or 9ft 3pc 5wt Barrio Outcast Blank, think for me it will be the 3wt first :wink :wink

The 3wt will be best, so that you can at least fish the Cape streams with your own rod. :D

Just less than 1oz in weight, that includes the reel seat.

Hi Rob

Mike & Kenny had a fiddle with it yesterday out at Haddo. The handle is built using an interlocking system and hollowed out which reduces the weight.

What you really need to do Rob is get your hands on it & feel it for yourself, it's not as heavy as it looks & the 5wt casts like a dream.

Alex,

Have you had the rods out on a river?  I'm just wondering how the wood stands up to wading and getting the fully submerged?

It looks wonder braw by the way!  I need to buy some bits to start building my latest projects!

Matt

Have submerged my 5wt to check exactly that with no problems what so ever, also it does not get slippy when wet & if it gets mud etc on it getting in & out of the river it just wipes off. :z16

very very very interesting.  I had thought that I would just make do with a cork handle on my new 5wt now I'm not so sure!

I am liking the different ideas on handles....

I am playing about with cork burl, its interesting, and you can get some nice effects, but I am also thinking of using Birch like this...
