Century Composites launch new fly rods :)

Based in Tyne and Wear and run by a bunch of amazing rod designers, they have come back to designing fly rods, and by some of the comments kicking around on forums about the performance of the rods, will be taking a big chunk of the market place.

Better known for record breaking beachcasters and Carp rods, Century have build fly rods in the past, but have not done so for around 15 years.

Have a look at them, some stunning features like variable weighting (adjustable whilst out fishing), twin butts to give one rod two actions, innovative handles etc etc.

Here is the DB version http://www.centurygame.co.uk/stealth_rod_14.php#stealth14DB

They are also brining out reels and lines to match.

The quality of the cloths used are some of the best and they are one of the few manufacturers to use autoclave technology to produce stronger blank walls.

I'd heard Mr Maughan was up to something with Century...... interesting idea which clearly Mick Bell also thought was a good idea and got in there first http://www.bloke-rods.co.uk/salmon.html although admittedly Bloke aren't offering the double bottom (am I right in thinking Bruce & Walker offered that once :? or was it double tips :?) I'd be intrigued to try them out but having recently sampled the McKenzie DTX http://www.mackenzieflyfishing.com/dtx-rods/ (which is simply brilliant) it would be hard to convince me there's something hugely better out there which requires balancing with weights before you use it.......
Oooh what a traditionalist I've become  :z7

Hamish,
I think the weighting was designed so that if you change lines or casting styles you can adjust the bottom hand weighting to give a nicer feel. A bit like wrapping lead core around your spool to get the same effect.

Ryobi certainly did a double tip fly rod a good few years ago which was actually pretty good, if not rung intrestingly (almost looked like spinning rod guides.)

Looking through some of the salmon forums some very respected casters/fisherman have said they are by far the best rods they have used...pretty impressive.

Certainly there beachcaster hold most UK and some world casting records and there carp rods are renowned for being the most advanced available with some amazing blanks, all autoclaved to produce the best.

And they are British through and through..which is nice :)
