Haddo on restricted fishing sessions ......
« on: 06/07/2009 at 19:00 »
Hi folks

Last week's hot spell lead to me closing the fishery on Sunday due to the water temperature! This is the first time in 8yrs that I've made this decision.

Before anybody gets excited, no I haven't lost any fish ........ but I do not wish to take folk's money if I feel that they have little chance of catching a fish due to the trout sulking and of course, it is not fair on the fish to increase their stress in these conditions.

I am opening for a 4hr fishing session in the mornings this week for the moment, as this is when the water is at its coolest.

I am monitoring the temperature, hopefully things will be back to normal soon and I could see things improving throughout the day today.

Best wishes
Mike

Mike,
As ever I commend you on your sensible thinking :)

My reef tank has been running high and the fish and corals have been sulking a bit. One thing with the temperatures is that not only do they cause low oxygen, they can also lower the Ph of the water, especially at night...might be worth keeping an eye on this....

Hi Mike,
What is the latest regarding water temperatures? The air temp in Peterhead barely reached 14 degrees today - I hope that this dramatic drop has eased the situation at Haddo! Hope to come across soon and wet the tube.
All the best,
Peter

Hi Peter :z16

Yes, the lower air temperatures over the past few days have been great, it takes a few days for the water temperature to follow suit, but things were looking almost normal today and the fish were well spread out throughout the lake.

Catches were quite good yesterday and the trout were rising today, so I'll go back to normal hours on Friday.

Best wishes

Thanks for the kind comments Dario :z16

Things were pretty much back to normal today, with the trout well spread out and feeding well near the surface ..... I even risked doing some work on the weed :wink

So, normal hours tomorrow folks :z15

Best wishes

Was it really just a few days ago that Mike had to close the fishery because of the heat.... moister than an otter's pocket out there today!
